RAVEONETTES
Friday, October 16, 2009 -
Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo have perfected their clever blend of ’60s girl group pop and guitar distortion. Less raw than last year’s splendid “Lust Lust Lust,” these great Danes have uncorked their best album of melancholic pop yet. The beat goes on starting with opener “Bang,” which sounds like Sonny and Cher on amphetamines. First single “Suicide” mashes a Spector-esque wall of sound with Ennio Morricone flourishes. Vocalist Foo has never been more icily seductive, and just when you think guitarist Wagner has gotten comfy with the pop flourishes, he unleashes some nasty guitar feedback that’ll make your hair stand on end. Download: “Boys Who Rape (Should All Be Destroyed).” (Appearing Tuesday at the Paradise.)
