Parachute, SafetySuit and Chad Perrone

The night started off with Chad Perrone, a local singer-songwriter hailing from Haverhill, MA. The last time I saw Chad perform was a few years back opening for Eric Hutchinson and Missy Higgins at The Roxy, and I was definitely excited to hear him play at a much smaller venue. My favorite songs of his set were ‘Madison’ and ‘Harwich.’ One young girl’s night was definitely made by Chad when he pulled her up on stage to sing with him. She gave Chad a run for his money! Overall Chad impressed all with a great acoustic set, strong vocals and hilarious in-between-song banter to get the crowd ready for the rest of the night.

Next up was SafetySuit, a pop-rock band based out of Nashville, TN. From the first note that was played, the guys of SafetySuit poured every ounce of energy and emotion they had into this performance. I was blown away by their incredible energy. Highlights of the set were ‘Down,’ the crowd-pleasing sing-along ‘Apology’ and their upcoming single ‘Annie’. Although I hadn’t heard their music before last night, this performance definitely left me wanting more; I am looking forward to their next trip to Boston.

After much anticipation, Parachute took the stage to end the night. The last time they were in Boston they were opening for Kelly Clarkson at Agganis Arena – just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Paradise. They started off the set with ‘Words Meet Heartbeats,’ which got the crowd dancing and singing right away. Lead singer Will Anderson let us know that we were in for a treat because we would get to hear some songs they had not performed live before. Parachute snuck in their never-before-heard -live upbeat song ‘The New Year,’ which was fitting to start off 2010. Keeping with the seasonal theme we also got to hear ‘Winterlove,’ a track off of Parachute’s 2-song winter EP released in October. An exciting surprise towards the end of the set was a spot-on cover of Phil Collins’ ‘In the Air Tonight’. The energy both from the crowd and from the band was high throughout the entire hour-long set. This was the first show on their current 17-city tour, and they definitely started it off with a bang. After this tour ends, Parachute is heading overseas to open for Kelly Clarkson’s European tour. Keep your eyes and ears open for these guys, there are great things in store for this band and they definitely have a bright future ahead of them.

Fun fact: Parachute opened for Chad Perrone at the Paradise Lounge in 2007 back when they were called Sparky’s Flaw!

Safetysuit/Parachute 1/7/10

The Paradise was an excellent venue to host this show at! The place was packed, and full of energy. Safetysuit is such an amazing band live. I saw them for the first time at the House of Blues in February, and they caught me off guard and roped me in! Their stage presence, their energy, their music, it's all too much! You're an instant fan for sure. Not to mention they're adorable. ;) I was psyched to see they were co-headlining with one of my favorite bands, Parachute.

Parachute, hot off a tour with Kelly Clarkson, brought it! Their fan base has built so much since the last time I saw them at the Paradise over the summer. It's great to see them grow! Everytime I see them, they get a little better. The show lastnight had many high points. They played their song "Winterlove", which was an iTunes only digital holiday release, for the first time EVER! :)

They seemed like they had fun, as did the crowd. I can't wait to see what's in store next for both bands!

Cheers to many more good shows at this venue,
